Books and References on Spiritual Warfare

Not everything relevant to the subject of deliverance and spiritual warfare is included on a site such as this. In my view some deliverance ministries are unbalanced and make extreme statements which are not totally true. The truth is extreme enough anyway without making universal statements with no clear foundation in Scripture. Anyway, here are the titles of some books and authors I can recommend on the subject of deliverance.

1. Christian, Set Yourself Free – by Graham Powell.

Satanic Tactics

“… for we are not ignorant of his devices.” (2 Corinthians 2:11)

Paul and his close co-workers made it their business not to be ignorant of Satan’s devices. This does not mean that Paul spent a lot of time researching all the dark secrets of Satan’s kingdom. No. Paul said to the Romans, “I want you to be wise in what is good, but simple (innocent) concerning evil. And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly” (Romans 16:19). Honestly, we don’t need to be “au fait” with all the latest conspiracy theories and what Satan may or may not be doing (Isaiah 8:12,13).

Spiritual Warfare Praying

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against
spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

Real Christians are involved in a spiritual conflict. This is a fight in which guns and tanks are of no use. Paul said, “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood”. The conflict is not with people, or nations, but with Satan and his demons. We need to recognise that many times when people oppose us, the reason behind it is spiritual.

Blessings and Curses

What is a blessing?

A blessing is a positive declaration over someone or something. When God blesses a person, He declares good concerning them which will surely come to pass. God is a great King, and as the Scripture says, “Where the word of a king is, there is power, and who can say to him, ‘What are you doing?’ “. Our ultimate concern should be to please and glorify God. He certainly deserves it. However, in truly doing this, we will attract God’s blessings and we will attract God’s favor. A good example in the Bible of someone who attracted God’s favor was David.

The Big Lies of Satan

The biggest and most fundamental lie that Satan and his demons promote – both to believers and non-believers alike is this: that there is something more important right now than seeking relationship, intimacy and communion with God through Jesus Christ and the fulness of the Holy Spirit. We could call this lie the lie to promote distraction from relationship with God. If someone persists in an undistracted relationship with God for more than a few days Satan’s losses already will be immense.

What Jesus did in Spiritual Warfare

God the Father sent Jesus into the world for a reason. The Bible says in 1 John 3:8, “For this purpose was the Son of God manifest, to destroy the works of the evil one.” Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. One demon sensed this when he cried out through a man in the synagogue, “Have you come to destroy us?” (Mark 1).

In order to overcome the devil’s works, Jesus needed to overcome severe temptation. This he did firstly in the wilderness at the end of his 40 day fast. He did it by saying, “It is written” and following it up with a quotation from God’s Word.

Demon Activities

1. They tempt people to sin, by putting various kinds of
imaginations in the minds of men and women and speaking words of deceit (Genesis 3:1-6). Satan even tempted Jesus, and Jesus revealed to us the way to overcome temptation by using the Word of God (see Matthew 4:1-10).

2. They deceive (2 Corinthians 11:14). They especially lie about God, blaming all the evil on God. Many religious leaders are deceived by Satan. As long as we remain deceived on some important point, Satan’s demons have something they can work with. They can return to it, like rats return to rubbish.

Demons and Fallen Angels

Demons are disembodied spirits that are at work virtually everywhere in the world today. They are evil in nature, and are obedient to Satan, their ruler. In the Bible they are also known as “evil spirits” or “unclean spirits”.

Who is Satan?

Satan (otherwise known as the devil) is the original enemy of God who rebelled at the foundation of the earth. He is the one ultimately responsible for all the deception that exists in this world. He has deceived many to disbelieve in his existence, though both serious Christians and well-informed devil worshippers both know he exists. He is a personal being, and has been both seen and heard by many people. He can use many forms – including that of an “angel of light”.

It is not surprising therefore that Satan has lately tried to convince many he is not all that bad – another deception.

Introduction to Spiritual Warfare

Things will be right when God takes his rightful place in our lives and in our societies. Most people have no idea how good it is to actually enjoy God’s favor and presence on a daily basis. Its amazing. It is possible, and it beats anything else you could ever experience. But God gave us freedom of choice. Unfortunately, mankind has used this freedom to give tremendous authority to invisible evil spirits including Satan, their chief. These spirits have deceived people everywhere, including many Christians, on just about every point that is truly important.
