Why it is so important to start waiting on God now!

As believers and disciples, we know there are many things we are supposed to do to obey Christ. A good summary of some of the main things, can be found in this single document at obeychrist.com. I encourage you to really study this document – at least the first part, if you want to be a fruitful disciple of the Lord.

But there is something else that is very important. In living our lives, we will have conflicting priorities and ideas – many of them for good things. And we may feel weak and possibly even harassed by the troubles and cares of life. So how can we really proceed?

A major key is to learn to Wait on God. What this means is to take time to still our souls as much as possible, and focus our attention and expectancy on God alone.

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. Psalm 62:5 (NLT)

There are many times when we need God to move, but we need to learn to wait patiently, not anxiously. We need to wait, not scheme. We need to trust, not strive. We need to wait in the peace of God.

Why We Need to Wait

Waiting on God renews our strength (Isaiah 40:31) and it is really allowing GOD to lead. Sometimes, we need to be still, and not be too active. The time for strong action comes eventually. For many of us, it is meant to be a season of waiting on God so we can get the strength we need for the last days revival and persecution.

Waiting on God renews not only strength, but hope. Many times setbacks and disappointments occur, and we can be robbed of hope for a while. But if we learn to wait on the Lord with expectancy, we can be re-appointed by the Lord for something else. Praise His Name!

Our own initiatives can get us into trouble, no matter how good the idea seems. This is because we can’t expect the Lord to follow us and help us in whatever our minds come up with – even if it is to serve God’s purposes as described in the Word. We are supposed to follow Him and let Him lead. If we are going into battle with satanic forces – and we are – then we need Him to lead so that we have HIS protection and blessing.

We need to wait on God so we get the TIMING right on things. God knows when all the necessary ingredients for His plan are in place. Them He will give the nudge to move. People, places and situations might need to change before it is time to act on something God has placed in your heart. God has special divine connections for us, and only He understands where everyone is at. That is why we sometimes need to wait.

How We Can Wait on God

Sometimes we can get still by meditating on the Word. This usually involves reflecting on as well as softly speaking the same Scripture to ourselves – the one that God is highlighting to us. Sometimes praying in the Holy Spirit will help our minds to settle down.

The main thing is to take time to do it – even if it is 5 minutes twice a day. That can make a difference.

Many of the problems we have with our own weakness and lack of faith can be resolved by fixing our minds not on such weaknesses which may scream at us or seem to condemn us – but by fixing our minds on the Word which the Holy Spirit wants to use to address our concerns.

And often, God would like our meditation to be on HIM, not even His promises.

So there is a whole world of blessing possible to obtain through waiting on God like this. I hope that as you pursue the will of God, and personal discipleship and ministry for the Lord, your whole life will be bathed in an attitude of waiting on and depending on God.
