For believers: Here is a simple way to enhance your reading of the Bible, and turbo-charge your prayer life.
When you read the Bible, read it slowly, and talk to the Lord about what you are reading. Have a conversation about it.
When you read a promise, like, for example: “My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19) you can say to God something like: “Dear Father, thank you that you shall supply all my needs richly! Could you give me more insight into this?”
When you encounter a commandment or principle to obey, such as “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34) you might say, “Dear Jesus, I’m setting my heart to love my brothers in Christ as you loved me. Help me to do that, and show me what it really means in my life.”
You can pray about so many things in response to reading the Bible. Keep asking God to give you revelation, or spiritual insight, into the meaning of what you are reading. As you talk with the Lord more about the things He already said, this will happen more and more.
If you are not sure where to find really powerful Bible verses you can talk to the Lord about, here is a suggestion that will work. Download the YouVersion Bible app on your mobile phone. Every day have a look at the verse of the Day it provides.
Thank God for the promise or the truth it tells you.
Ask God for more insight and revelation on what that verse tells you.
Commit before to God to apply that verse to your life.
Ask God for help by the Holy Spirit (grace) to be empowered to believe it and do it.
