Introduction
Death is natural and inescapable. It is the one inevitable fact of life. But the death of Christ was most terrible way to die! Yet it was part of God’s Great plan. Let’s study the Significance of the Christ’s death.
Significance of the Death of Christ
1. It was prophesied in the Scriptures. “The prophets have spoken
. . . Lk. 24:25, 26.
2. Preached as the gospel. “The gospel I preached . . .that christ died for our sins” 1 Cor. 15:1, 3.
3. Revealed by the Holy Spirit. “Christ and the glories was revealed”
1 Pet. 1:11, 12.
4. Searched by the prophets. “Prophets. . .searched of Christ. . .”
1 Pet. 1:10, 11.
5. Angels longed to look. “Even angels long to look into. . .”
1 Pet. 1:12.
6. Heavenly visitors discussed. “They spoke about his departure. . .

7. It was God’s eternal plan. “The lamb that was slain from the creation. . .” Rev. 13:8.
Meaning of the Death of Christ
1. A ransom. “Who gave himself as a ransom for all men”
1 Tim. 2:6.
2. An atonement. “God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement” Rom. 3:25.
3. To reconcile. “And through him to reconcile through his blood” Col. 1:20.
4. As a substitute. “For Christ died. . .the righteous for the unrighteous” 1 Pet. 3:18.
5. As an obedience. “He humbled himself and became obedient to death. . .” Phil. 2:8.
The Necessity of the Death of Christ
1. God’s holiness demands. “Your (God’s) eyes are too pure to look on evil” Hab. 1:13.
2. Christ’s willingness “A body you prepared. . .I have come to do your will” Heb. 10:5, 7.
3. To fulfill the Scriptures “Everything must be fulfilled about me” Lk. 24:44.
4. For our sins. “He was delivered over to death for our sins. . .” Rom. 4:25.
5. To destroy the devil. “So that by his death he might destroy him. . .” Heb. 2:14.
The Vastness of the Death of Christ

Results of the Death of Christ

Our Response to the Death of Christ
1. KNOW IT. “Don’t you know that all of us. . .were baptized into his death” Rom. 6:3, 6.
2. UNITED IN IT. “If we have been united with him like this in his death” Rom. 6:5.
3. COUNT IT. “‘The death he died. . .to sin once for all. . .in the same way count” Rom. 6:10,11.
4. LONG FOR IT. “I want to know. . .becoming like him in his death” Phil. 3:10.
5. CARRY IT. “We always carry around in our body the death of
Jesus. . .” 2 Cor. 4:10.
