PRAYERS TO SPEAK GOD'S WORD PROPHETICALLY
Father, I pray that when I speak, I speak truly as the very words of God. (1 Peter 4:11)
Father, this is your covenant with me as I turn from sin: Your Spirit, who is upon me, and Your words which you have put in my mouth, shall not depart from my mouth, nor from the mouth of my descendants … from this time forth and forevermore. (Is. 59:21)
Father, I pray that I not speak my own words. (Is. 58:13)
PRAYERS TO REFRAIN FROM EVIL SPEAKING
Lord, you said, "What comes out of his mouth, this defiles a man." (Matt. 15:11)
Lord, I pray that I treasure good things, not evil things, in my heart, and that out of the abundance of the good things in my heart my mouth speaks. (Mt. 12:35)
I pray that I speak evil of no man. (Titus 3:2)
DON'T SLANDER
Lord, you told me not to go up and down as a talebearer, gossip or slanderer among the people. (Lev. 19:16)
I pray I be swift to hear; slow to speak, and slow to wrath. (James 1:19)
Lord, make me the wise one who restrains his lips. (Pr. 10:19)
Lord, help me to remember that the perverse tongue will be cut out. (Pr. 10:31)
Lord, make me of a faithful spirit so as to conceal a matter not needing to be said. (Pr. 11:13)
Lord, keep me from being ensnared by the transgression of my lips. (Pr. 12:13)
Lord, teach me when to cover shame prudently. (Pr. 12:16)
SPEAK GRACIOUSLY
Father, I thank you that as I love purity of heart, and You put grace on my lips, the king will be my friend. (Pr 22:11)
Pour grace upon my lips, O Father; and bless me forever. (Ps. 45:2)
Make me wise and thus my words gracious; let my lips not swallow me up. (Ecclesiastes 10:12)
I pray Lord that men may marvel at the gracious words which come out of my mouth. (Luke 4.22)
THE NEED TO HUMBLE MYSELF
He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to humble yourself to walk with your God. Mic 6.8
Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, SHOWING ALL HUMILITY TO ALL MEN. Titus 3.1 3.2
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.
Lord Jesus, you have commanded us and given us grace to love one another as you loved us. As we do this, we will abide in You, and You in us. Otherwise we cannot bear fruit. Apart from you we can do nothing. You have made a way for us. You have poured out your love in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, and we can remain in your love. We thank You that through You we will bear much fruit. (Romans 5:5; John 15:4,5)
Lord, we pray for all those not abiding in You. We pray that they will repent, and not be thrown away as worthless branches. We pray that those in the church will never dry up.
A note on this: honestly, the best thing is to start training yourself to say “Thank you Father” for various things regularly throughout the day. Good habits have power! It will make a BIG DIFFERENCE in your life. Grateful people CANNOT be unhappy.
Dear Holy Spirit, help me:
– in everything to give thanks, for this is the will of God for me in Christ Jesus. I don’t want to grieve You through ingratitude.
(1 Thessalonians 5:18,19)
– to let the peace of God rule in my heart, to which I was also called in one body; and to be thankful. (Colossians 3:15)
