The Folly of Idolatry

I was so struck by something I read in God’s Word that I thought it worth sharing. It has to do with idolatry and its folly. If ever there was an example of utter foolishness or folly, it is found in the actions and words of the enemies of Israel, who, after capturing the ark of God from Israel, were struck with a plague by God as punishment. Their reaction? “When the people realized what was happening, they exclaimed, ‘We can’t keep the ark of the God of Israel here any longer. We will all perish, along with our god Dagon'” (1 Sam. 5:7 TLB).

I Samuel 8:4 tells us that Israel wanted a King:

So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a King to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”

Samuel was displeased, that the people did not recognize the LORD as their King.

Napoleon Hill said, “There are three kinds of people in the world- The wills, The wont’s and The cant’s. The first accomplish everything, the second oppose everything and the third fail in everything.” Failure is one of the negative aspects of life. We deny it, run away from it or upon being over taken, fall into permanent paralysing fear.

Probably our reluctance to face it is the failure behind our failures.

Swine Flu or something like it – Jesus prophesied PLAGUES

Swine Flu has already caused the deaths of a number of until recently healthy adults in Mexico. In the last few days the world has been alarmed about the spread of this so-called Swine Flu. This nasty virus, we are told, might lead to a pandemic – the spread of a disease which could kill MILLIONS – maybe TENS of MILLIONS of people.

One of the end-time signs that Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24 was “plagues”, or “pestilences”.

I listen to wisdom and will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm. Pr 1.33

No harm or grave trouble befalls the righteous. I am righteous in Christ and no harm shall befall me. I avoid wicked thoughts, words and actions for the wicked have their fill of trouble. Pr 12.21

I will both lie down in peace and sleep, for the Lord alone makes me dwell in safety. Ps 4.8

The Lord is a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. Ps 3.3

God is my strong refuge, to which I may resort continually. Ps 71.3

God is my rock and my fortress.
