2. The Gospel The gospel is the Person of Jesus Christ, the Son of God: He is the Good News. He is salvation. It is
The quest of a person’s life defines that person, who he or she is. And every human being is on a quest whether they know it or not. This is because God has made us this way. He has put into our hearts a dissatisfaction with life lived solely of ourselves, and we will not be rid of this dissatisfaction until we find him as the true source and purpose of our lives.
“He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end” (Eccl. 3:11 NIV).
God's plan is that we pray in such a way that we get answers to prayer. Rote prayers prayed in a parrot fashion will not really satisfy the heart of God. Our hearts need to enter into prayer. God is also looking for faith. Without faith we cannot please God. When we pray, we need to be having the attitude that we are going to get the things we are asking for.
There is something wonderful about genuine faith in God. Something really refreshing. In the first place, true faith is not rooted in self-righteousness. This was the problem of the Pharisees and it is easy enough for us to fall into the kind of trap they were in if we go for religious zeal without a genuine love for people.
True faith in God begins when God reaches down to us with His word. Its the word that gets through to our hearts that counts. Usually we are most receptive when we realise that we are not good enough, and we really need help.
God wants us to grow in prayer, faith and authority. God wants to do something good in your life. Not only in your life, but in my life too. And in the lives of people everywhere.
Some of the deepest questions we have about the mysteries of life, reality, and the destinies of men are answered in Scripture in just a few simple words. That is the power of God’s Word, that it can take the most profound mysteries and make them plain to us. One of these great mysteries is why the lost are lost. One verse in Scripture is all it takes to answer this deep question–but it might not be the verse nor the answer you expect.
If we ask the deep question, “Why do the lost perish?” we have this simply stated, two-part answer from a single verse in Scripture:
THE MYSTERY OF UNBELIEF
A great mystery troubled me for a long time: Why do some believe in Jesus and some do not? I say troubled because this is not simply a speculative question of curiosity or merely an intellectual item for discussion: There are consequences of the utmost severity for those who do not believe in Jesus. An eternity in the fires of hell (2 Ths. 1:9, Mark 9:47,48), or its equivalent, is not a trivial matter. When you think about this, then, it does trouble the heart, especially when you think of loved ones close to that heart.
Chapter three Righteousness In our first two chapters of prayer pastor-ing we talked about praying mercy and grace over peoples live now our third
This is the second chapter of our eBook
on Prayer Pastoring. The first chapter dealt with step one praying
for mercy. We often have judgements against us that halt our prayers
for ourselves therefore we need God’s mercy. Without mercy our
prayers are hindered. We often mistake opposition as coming from
spiritual warfare but many times it is coming from God himself and we
are reaping what we have sown. This opposition is the judgement of
God. Chapter one explains this process.
