Believing for a moment in Jesus won’t save you, unless you abide in His Word. You have to stick with Him.
Words are taken from John 8:31-36
If you abide in My Word [Jesus said], you’re disciples indeed x2
And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free
[They answered him] We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone
How can you say, “You will be made free”.
[Jesus answered] Most assuredly I say to you, whoever sins is a slave of sin x2
And a slave does not remain in the house forever, but a son abides forever, forever
Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed x4
Comments:
To me Jesus is emphasizing the incredible importance of continuing to listen to His word, even after believing. Doing this will free you from sin, and you will be truly free.
It is not enough to be “theologically free” or “free because you have a doctrine that tells you you are free” or to claim to be a child of God and a Child of Abraham, and therefore excuse yourself from the need to be a disciple of Jesus who listens to His words. None of these religious sayings are going to wash with God.
Reason: if you actually commit sin, you are in bondage to sin still. Only once you stop sinning, by keeping on listening to Christ’s Word and doing what He says, will you be REALLY free from Satan and sin. Everything short of this is just religious garbage.
