Scriptures on the Importance of Endurance

Mat 24:13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

God does not promise salvation to those who fail to endure in the tests which are surely coming upon the people of the earth. So don’t give up! (See Mark 13:13, Matthew 10:22

Heb 10:36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:

We need to keep doing the will of God to be saved. If we don’t have endurance, we cannot receive the promises of God concerning salvation or anything else. It is true that God gives us new chances to start again so many times, but it is also true that a time will come for us when endurance is essential to our receiving of God’s promises. So its better to learn endurance now.

Heb 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

Life is a race and it will be painful at times. Endurance means keeping on going when we are hurting and our bodies would rather quit!

Heb 12:7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?

Every true son of God has to endure chastening. It means that God will cause us pain in order to get us to change. We have to endure, meaning not give up on God, in the midst of our pain.

2Ti 4:5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

To fulfil the work of the ministry, we have to endure the afflictions that come along in the path of doing the will of God. And there will be some. One of them is found in the very act of “watchfulness” – which means denying ourselves sleep and staying alert even when we’d rather not.

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;

This implies that the truth of sound doctrine is not always according to our desires. Sound doctrine causes pain to carnally minded “believers” and the time will come, and I believe has come already, when such people will not endure it. They prefer to find teachers to tell them what is agreeable to their minds. But we have to endure the truth, even when it hurts and sentences the flesh to death.

2Ti 2:12 If we endure, We shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us.

We will not reign in this life or the next with Christ if we do not learn to endure.

2Ti 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

There are many unpleasant things we have to endure if we want to fully play our part in helping people to obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

2Ti 2:3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

Only bad soldiers do not endure hardship. As soldiers of Jesus Christ, we MUST endure hardship.

2Th 1:4 so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure,

We will have to endure persecutions and tribulations with patience and faith. It means that things will not always go the way we want. We have to wait patiently for what we want, and keep believing the promises, even while trouble happens and even persecution comes from outsiders.

1Co 9:12 If others are partakers of this right over you, are we not even more? Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things lest we hinder the gospel of Christ.

Paul put up with the fact that he was not financially supported by some of those whom he fathered in the gospel and taught the Word of God. He did it so that the gospel could go forward in greater power.

1Co 4:12 And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;

True apostles will have to endure persecution.

Mar 4:17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble.

We need to let the Word of God have deep roots in us, otherwise when tribulation or persecution come for the word’s sake, we will give up. We have to keep enduring. It is not good enough to “endure only for a time”.

Jas 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Temptation causes pain if resisted, and we will be blessed if we endure temptation until such time as we are approved as overcomers concerning that thing.

1Co 13:7 [Love] bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love is the great commandment, and it implies endurance of all things.

Luk 18:1 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,

Though delayed answers to prayer would tend to dishearten us, God is telling us NOT to lose heart, but to persist in prayer.
