Evil spirits on the prowl

Mat 12:43 “When an unclean spirit goes out from a man, he goes through waterless places, seeking rest, and does not find any.
Mat 12:44 Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from where I came out.’ And when he comes, he finds it unoccupied, swept, and adorned.
Mat 12:45 Then he goes and takes along with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and entering in they dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Thus it shall also be for this wicked generation.”

This story should alert us to something. It is not enough to get rid of sin from our lives. If our hearts do not receive SOMETHING GOOD from God to replace the evil – something like MERCY, GENEROSITY, KINDNESS, FAITH or the things of the HOLY SPIRIT, then eventually some prowling demon, maybe one that was formerly in our lives and we though we got free of – that evil spirit just might come in and wreck our lives.

If you truly fear God, then you won’t need to fear sin or the devil.

But if you DON’T fear God, you DO love sin and you FEEL SAFE because your theology tells you an evil spirit can’t touch you – you are the one who will lose. Your own heart will ultimately be in torment because satan doesn’t care about what YOU think, but he has to respect WHAT GOD SAYS.

Therefore, let us take seriously the commandment of God. “Be continually filled with the Holy Spirit”. (Ephesians 5:18). This is a command, not a piece of advice, or an optional extra. A large part of our spiritual warfare lies in resisting distraction and taking the time to be filled with God’s Spirit and the things of God. Then Satan can’t oppress us.
