Before a Thing Springs forth I tell you of it

Before A Thing Springs Forth, I Tell You of It
By Ronald L. Mitchell

On May 10,1995 I stop by my church to worship God and pray and the Lord laid upon my heart some verses of scripture to read in the 42nd book of Isaiah 13-16. They read; " The Lord shall go forth as a mighty man, He shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: He shall cry, ye roar; He shall prevail against his enemies. I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: Now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once. I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; And I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools, and I will bring the blind by a way they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them and not forsake them". The more I read the more God caused me to understand. So many thoughts raced through my mind. It was like I could see and feel what God was feeling and I wondered how long God would show mercy to a generation as ungodly and unthankful as ours. God spoke to me and said, " On August 17th of this year a hurricane will come". I began crying and ask God to have mercy on us and to open the eyes of those blinded by Satan's deceit. I ask God to turn the callous and stony heart into hearts of flesh that's tender and sensitive to his word and to his Spirit. I know that many times a person will never seek God until they actually need him. They might spend most of their lives fulfilling their own pleasures without once calling on the name of the Lord or giving thanks for his goodness. I felt in my heart that God was grieved at what he saw upon the earth. Too many times we take for granted that God holds the breath of every living thing in the palm of his hand as well as our promise of tomorrow. It was as though God was speaking to my heart, directly from Isaiah 55:7 which reads, "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon". I believe that God revealed the future to me for the purpose of stirring their hearts unto repentance and to let them know that now is the time to turn from their wicked ways and seek the Lord! The Apostle Paul warned the people about their acts of fornication and adultery as well as greed and filthiness in Ephesians 5:6 saying, "Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience". Early the next day I took a pencil and marked just above day seventeen in the month of August 1995 the word "Hurricane". Later that day my wife inquired as to what it meant and after I explained she laughed and said "we will see". As the weeks passed by from time to time the prophecy would be the topic of our conversation. I testified to many people concerning what God had spoken to me and now as the day rapidly approached, I was receiving opinions from everyone including my wife to the devil himself. Nevertheless, I held fast to what God had spoken to me that night in prayer. I even recorded it that night in my bible. Around the first week of August, my wife and I were watching the weather forecast when the announcement was made that a tropical depression had formed in the far eastern Atlantic which was later upgraded that same day to a tropical storm. By August 11th 1995 the first major hurricane of the season had developed"Hurricane Felix". Her winds strengthened to an impressive 135mph. On August 15th Felix moved to within 80 miles of Bermuda then turned westward for a time staying south of Bermuda. The center of the storm looped to within 200 miles off North Carolina's coast. It was during the next few days that people along the eastern United States would take notice of the possibility of losing everything they have, including their lives. I remember at our church, we all held hands and prayed, asking God to have mercy on us and send the storm back out to sea. Likewise, were the prayers of many churches along the eastern seaboard. On August 17th 1995 Hurricane Felix stalled along the eastern coast of North Carolina before weakening to 80mph and heading out to sea. Exactly 100 days later the prophecy God had spoken to me that night was fulfilled. When God gave me the scriptures in Isaiah 42, I trusted in his word. But it wasn't until Hurricane Felix stalled and turned out to sea that I clearly saw Gods mercy for us in the fact that before the Hurricane actually came, God expressed His love and willingness to forgive if we would only seek him. Isaiah 42:16 reads "And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them and not forsake them". Praise God, He didn't forsake us and he heard our cry in the midst of the storm. I thank God that He shows mercy and kindness to those who worship and fear him.
