What is success? It has been defined in various ways. I looked online to find out, One definition says: “Success is an event that accomplishes its intended purpose.” Others say, “Success is not an event, but a journey”. Others say, “You have to look at your own core values to work out what success means for you”. So there is not one universal definition of success.
I was talking yesterday with Rod St Hill of the Christian Heritage College in Brisbane, Australia. He is the Dean of the School of Business there and it really was a pleasure to talk with him.
It was interesting to hear Mark Bilton speak about being “Called to Business” last night. Mark is the CEO of the Hagameyer multinational which controls several prominent brands, and turns over 300 million a year. He is also a dedicated Christian who sees his work as a big part of his ministry for God. Here are some of the key points from his message:
* Something about WORK itself honors God.
* God ordained work from before the Fall of Man – Adam had to keep the garden.
The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil IN THE CHURCH. Not only outside the church.

Money is the accepted means of exchange for “might” and “power”. People
will go to work for you in exchange for money, they will sell their
“might” and “power” to you for money. But God says, “It is NOT by might,
NOT by power – but BY MY SPIRIT says the Lord”. The love of money is
what has been pushing the Holy Spirit and His gifts out of the
pentecostal churches.

God blesses me and makes His Name great through me. I am a blessing unto others. Christ redeems me from the curse of the law. I am a child of Abraham and the blessing of Abraham is upon me (Genesis 12:2-3; Galatians 3:7,14)
How do you react when God seems to deny you what you ask in prayer, at least for the time being, and you do not understand why? What if you prayed for a long time and it still did not get answered yet? Does that make you change the way you think or feel about God? Does it makes you feel dissapointed or maybe offended with God? Does it affect the quality of your relationship and intimacy with God? Believe me, it did affect mine in the past, and it took me 4 years and a LOT of pain of mind and soul to get to understand what I am writing to you about below.
“He who oppresses the poor to increase his riches, And he who gives to the rich, will surely come to poverty.”
Proverbs 22:16
If you are one of the people who has bought into the idea that if you just give “tithes and offerings” to your favorite mega-church and your favorite prosperity preacher you will surely get rich, I need to warn you, on the authority of God’s Word, that you are promised POVERTY and NOT riches by the Word of God. That’s right – he who gives to the rich, WILL SURELY COME TO POVERTY.
I picked this one up at a church in Brisbane. I do believe it is helpful to believe that God is going to bless and protect you, and speaking accordingly can be very helpful as speech affects our thoughts and beliefs very much. What do others think? Should we use such techniques?
