Does God do it all?

“Well done good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:21)

“He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

Every now and then theological ideas come up which emphasize God’s part in our lives to the exclusion of all else. It sounds spiritual when someone who is complimented on a good work says, “No, it was really God who did it all”. It sounds like a humble way of giving all the glory to God. But this kind of talking is unscriptural, because while God may work through us, He generally requires our active co-operation.

Confidence in God

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

“He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24)

Just How Important is Having Confidence?

A Definite Chief Aim in God

"One thing I do … I press toward
the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

Philippians 3:13, 14 (KJV)

There is great power in knowing what
you are aiming for. The apostle Paul, who penned the above words, was
not a man who lived without purpose. There was a mark, or a goal,
around which his thoughts and his actions focused.

One of the characteristics of the world
we live in today is distraction.

Church Politics

By Church politics I mean the way church leaders relate to one another
and to others in exercising authority and determining the way things will
be done in church life. The term “church politics” often has a negative
connotation – however I am using the term in a broader sense. The policies
and ways of church leadership may be godly or they may be ungodly. The
way leadership is exercised is tremendously important to the Lord, so for
this reason I believe it is worth writing about this and opening up the
subject.

Spirit, Soul and Body – the Tripartite nature of Man

"Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."
(1 Thessalonians 5:23)

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being [nephesh – soul]."
(Genesis 2:7)

Steps in Being a Disciple of Jesus

This page is designed for Christians. It needs to be recognised that
we all need to grow in every one of the basic areas of Christian life.
The most important thing to the Lord is our heart attitude. Because the
Lord works on each of us individually, we need to follow His leading on
all things. Hopefully this page can be a tool in His hands though for some.

If you lack power in your Christian life, it could be due to a lack
of knowledge, or to a lack of obedience.

Pride vs Humility

If anyone has a right to be proud, it must be God. After all, He created the world without any help from you or me. He Himself is uncreated, eternal, and utterly faultless. If you think there is a problem with God, you are just showing your ignorance. He Himself dwells in unapproachable light, He is mighty, glorious, perfect in beauty and splendour, ominiscient – no one and nothing can compare to Him. He is the only One qualified to be proud. And yet, He is humble.

On Christian Contemporary Music and Christian Rock

"The disciple is not above His Lord. If we want the joy of Christ, we must do what Christ did. For Him, satisfaction was not the result of finding some Christian pleasure to compete with the world's pleasure. It was not a question of being entertained by church performances instead of secular performances. Christ does not compete by promising a religious equivalent of what the world offers, pleasure for pleasure. It is completely different. The pleasure of Christ is the will of God and its enactment.
