He who believes in the Son has eternal life … John 3:36
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. But those who do not obey the Son will never have that life. They cannot get away from God’s anger. (John 3:36 ERV)
The phrase “believe in the Son” has been cheapened and weakened in its meaning. Do a study of what Jesus said is true of those who believe in Him if you are not sure. So while believing, we should also look to these other promises which assure salvation to those who truly belong to the Lord.
“But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him. (Psalm 4:5)
So a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who meditate on His name. “They shall be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts, “On the day that I make them My jewels. And I will spare them As a man spares his own son who serves him.” (Malachi 3:16,17)
Look upon me and be merciful to me, as your custom is toward those who love your name. (Psalm 119:132)
The Lord redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned. (Psalm 34:22)
Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the Tree of Life, and may enter through the gates into the city. (Revelation 22:14)
(Basically the commandments now relate to believing, loving, trusting, helping, praying and making disciples).
These are some of the ways a true believer – one who will be saved – is described.
