Read the Words in Red!

No-one can get away from the words of Jesus.

The words of Jesus either give us everlasting life or they will judge us.

Jesus said that the Father judges no man, but has committed all judgement to the Son (John 5:22).

Then Jesus said that if anyone hears His (Jesus’) words yet does not believe, He (Jesus) does not judge Him: because He did not come to judge the world but to save the world. Rather, someone who rejects Him and does not embrace His words, has someone that judges him:

“…the word that I have spoken..” said Jesus, “…the same shall judge him in the last day” (John 12:47,48).

The word that Jesus has spoken shall judge him in the last day.

So it pays to take another look at what Jesus said!

It is Jesus’ words – and Jesus’ words alone – which have the power to give everlasting life, or to judge us, in the last day.

Notice Jesus didn’t only say, “…he that rejecteth me…” but He added, “…and receiveth not my words…”

Some people might feel that they have accepted Jesus without having embraced all of His commandments. But Jesus said that we embrace Jesus only if we embrace His words.

We must therefore be careful that we don’t get deceived.

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away,” He said.

With what message did Jesus command the Apostles to go and teach all nations?

“…teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you…” (Matthew 28:19).

All things. Whatsoever. I have COMMANDED. You.

Everything written in the Epistles is therefore written upon the foundation of Jesus Christ and His words.

Jesus’ words originated not from Himself but from the Father. And the Father’s “commandment is life everlasting,” said Jesus. Therefore to hear, believe, embrace and honour Jesus’ words is to honour the Father. And His words have life in themselves.

My brother often gave the following advice to young Christians who were beginning a Bible-reading program: “Read the words in red”.

Read every word in red (the words of Christ) – believe it, and do it.

Seeing Jesus’ words alone have the power to give everlasting life, or they will be the standard by which a man will be judged, let’s make it our project to take another look at everything – everything – Jesus said.

If there’s anything in life that we ought to want to become an expert at, it’s to be an expert at the words of Jesus. Expert at knowing and doing His words. Because everlasting life, or judgement, depend on it. Then we can face the exam having done our homework. He’s already told us in advance what the questions will be. His words.

So let’s again embrace the words in red.
