Amazing Favor in the Medical SystemI don't know why people don't recognize miracles. Maybe they're just too busy trying to survive to notice the glorious things going on around them.Two years ago my 80 year old mothers heart began racing very fast. She was taken to the hospital where they were able to stabilize her heartbeat. We were told that she would need an implant to help regulate her heart. She received the implant and was ready to come home when she went into a massive heart attack. Fortunately, she was still on the monitors when this occurred and we didn't lose her; but we were told that her heart was very old and very weak and that a valve needed to be replaced in her heart. Her chances of leaving the hospital alive were suddenly very bleak. The heart was so damaged that the doctors didn't want to take a chance on performing the operation knowing that the operation alone would probably kill her. We insisted that they perform the operation anyway with the hope that she would survive. The hospital finally agreed, but due to their operating room schedule and the availability of heart surgeons, the operation would not be performed for at least 4 days, and they didn't expect her to last more than 2 days without it. Our entire family prayed. We called our friends and co-workers and asked them to pray. Our parishes were praying with us. The people we didn't even know in the waiting room prayed with us. Even the nurses on the floor prayed with us. Finally, after about 24 hours, someone got us in touch with a Dr. Berger at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. Dr. Berger was one of the 2 best surgeons in the world at this particular procedure. He agreed to perform the operation at Johns Hopkins that day or the next. The hospital she was in did not want to let her be moved because of her fragile health. The insurance company declared that they would absolutely not pay for Dr. Berger to perform this operation because of his cost and they would not pay the high cost fees of Johns Hopkins Hospital. Nevertheless, Johns Hopkins Hospital sent a team to the hospital, transferred my mother to Johns Hopkins, and performed the surgery in time to save her. Dr. Berger, even though he is world renouned, performed the surgery at no cost! Johns Hopkins Hospital agreed to accept whatever the insurance company would pay as usual and customary with no additional costs to us. Johns Hopkins even provided a daily nurse for my mother for a month after she came home (not covered at all by insurance). Some people say this was just a fortunate set of circumstances....I know the power of prayer. Even though I recognize this as a miracle, I am no less in awe of Gods ability to move the hearts of men. My mother is still alive and very healthy today because a miracle came into her life. From
