Did Benny Hinn give false prophecies?

We like to believe in our christian heroes, especially those who seem to be so much more anointed than your average Christian. But with greater exposure comes greater accountability. The ability to raise funds and buy lots of TV time does not constitute God's endorsement. If raising money was proof of God's favour, then the Roman Catholics, the Mormons and the various gurus like Sathya Sai Baba would clearly have God's favour even more than the most "anointed" televangelist. Benny Hinn is a skilled fundraiser, and he does preach the gospel at times - but has he stepped outside his calling when he has attempted to prophesy? He writes books on how well he knows the Holy Spirit, but was it really the Spirit who told him these things? For example:

"The Spirit tells me - Fidel Castro will die - in the 90's. Oooh my! Some will try to kill him and they will not succeed. But there will come a change in his physical health, and he will not stay in power, and Cuba will be visited of God."

It is now 2007 and only recently has Castro had health problems. He hasn't died in the '90s either. What are these prophecies supposed to mean, actually?

Or how about this one, apparently given at Orlando Christian Center, Dec. 31st, 1989.

"The Lord also tells me to tell you in the mid 90's, about '94-'95, no later than that, God will destroy the homosexual community of America. [audience applauds] But He will not destroy it - with what many minds have thought Him to be, He will destroy it with fire. And many will turn and be saved, and many will rebel and be destroyed."

This is just telling so many gullible Christians what they want to hear. Which Lord was Benny referring to?

Please don't be sucked in by all this nonsense. There is such a thing as real prophecy but I believe it is a fearful thing to give false prophecies on a massive public platform such as worldwide "Christian" television.

See http://www.aloha.net/~mikesch/tbn.htm for original audio clips of these and other false prophecies.
I do not agree with everything on this man's website or the websites of others quoted here, but this in itself is not a sufficient reason to avoid referring to them. There are websites which point out some of the errors of Benny Hinn and others, but many of these website authors are at least partially in error them

Re, Benny Hinn prophecy and lost homosexual souls

I felt sad on hearing about this kind of crowd mentality, and applauding from the crowd in this way, a sort of rejoicing of the lost. I believe that anyone with a true feeling of Christianity and what it means to be a Christian, would feel an absolute sadness at the loss of any soul. I also feel that this is just the attitude that the enemy uses to keep the lost away from God, all should be welcome in church in my opinion, after all wasn't it said that 'he who is without sin should cast the first stone'. I know that since the time I have asked Jesus into my heart I have in my opinion became closer and closer to God and have overcome sin that I didn't even know I had, at least not until the holy spirit started to work in me. I am sure I still am far, far away from perfect but I will seek forever with my imperfectness to please God. We are all sinners and can only come to God through Jesus Christ our lord and saviour, and it is only through the blood that was so lovingly shed on the cross that we could ever be anything else except the sinner that was once lost. The Holy Spirit working in us helps us to see things in the light of truth, and gives us a more loving and repentant heart. Love everyone and help those lost souls to Christ through love, kindness and prayer. Remember God is Judge of all, I know for a fact none of us are without sin, for the bible tells me so. Kindly, lovingly bring our fellow man/woman to Christ, so as they too can be saved, not through condemnation but through gentleness and loving biblical instruction, and most of all aiding -ALL- to come to and seek out Christ. If that was indeed a prophecy of God then why oh why would a Christian in this crowd applaud, I myself am sad for any lost soul, very sad, and would also be thinking what about me, what can I do to be a better person before God? What part could I play in helping to prevent those souls from being lost? Jesus came so that through him all could be saved, and as Christians we should be seeking to further Gods will on earth and help the lost towards salvation, not rejoice at the possible destruction of others. Only the devil rejoices at lost souls, or perhaps those truly lost themselves, for wasn't it also taught us through the Lord’s prayer, in the line that says 'forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us', you could take that to mean don't hold any sin against another if you want God to turn his face to your sin. Oh and God doesn't lie either, he is gracious though, so I will hold Judgement on Benny Hinn, I will pray for him though.

Deuteronomy 18:22 (Read all of Deuteronomy 18)

When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

That is God's spoken words and not man, we need to try the spirits and know whether their are of God or not. Sometimes when God begin to use His people, they can become prideful and if they don't be careful can do things in self rather than the Holy Spirit using them.

What about Hillsongs Michael?

cleanasfire loves you in Jesus' name. Thoughts?

Hillsong

This is a complex multi part issue. I am not ready to share all my thoughts on it.

What about Myles Munroe

evstevemd's picture

I want to buy a book from Myles Munroe as the author.Im not too experienced with Him,ive seen few sermons ,not enough to evaluate his beliefs and teaching. Anybody to help on that?

Jesus is Love
Jesus is God
By his stripes we were healed

What about Rick Joyner?

I have heard some things said against him as well, having one of Joyner's books I am thus confused as to whether I should believe/take seriously what he says. I most certainly do not want to blaspheme the Holy Spirit by saying his prophecies are not of God, nor would I want anyone else here to do so, but of course we need discernment. After having talked to people from my church I have recieved different opinions, I just want to know if anyone has any further insight?

About Rick Joyner

michael's picture

I have read a 5 or 6 of his books. Generally, they stir up in me a love for Jesus. Rick Joyner is obviously very intelligent and furthermore I believe many of his revelations have their roots in God. The Bible says, "Test all things. Hold onto the good. Avoid even the form of evil". So we would need to discuss individual aspects of his writings and prophecies. We can't unquestioningly accept everything.

There is also a difference between what one sees and how one interprets it. It is also possible to receive good revelations but make a few serious errors in terms of who one associates with. I believe Rick Joyner made a mistake in aligning himself with these Knights of Malta, or whoever they are. It seems he also failed to discern the sin in some of his leading prophetic friends until it all came out. No one is perfect. I think we should look for what is helpful and learn where we can, without committing ourselves to swallow all that he does or says, or the way he says it as being from God.

So its a complex issue.

A prophet of God must speak only what God wants them to say and not what they think God or the people would like them to say... True prophecy from above will exhort, edify and comfort the believer...When God issues a warning or a chastisement He will give you a solution to the problem and will not leave you there wondering what must I do now...I am having a very hard time with the prophecy concerning the homosexuals....The people in the meeting rejoiced over the destruction of the homosexuals...Their spirit was entirely wrong for it is not the appearance of the person, nor their talents, nor their gifts that are of the utmost importance to our Heavenly Father but it is the persons' soul...Our Father wants NO ONE to perish but ALL to come to repentance

well said warrior daughter,

well said warrior daughter, Jesus died for all even the homosexuals. A lot of homosexuals was delivered from the spirit of homosexuality and are living for God today.

Correct

Yes, warrior daughter, you are absolutely right.
